Let me teach you how to access any WD MyCloud drive from your computer through WIFI.

Please note, to have this solution work for you, your drive needs to be properly connected to your network. To find out how –  check this video HERE.

Now, let’s dive in!

Outdated WD My Cloud Drives: Time for an Upgrade?

As many of you might know, Western Digital (WD) has discontinued support for certain My Cloud drive models. While this is unfortunate, it could be the perfect opportunity to upgrade your home network storage to a private NAS solution, giving you full control over your data. After all, the WD My Cloud solution had its fair share of issues.

For Now, Here’s How to Access Your WD Drive:

While you consider upgrading your storage solution, you’ll still need to access your WD drive. Here’s a quick and easy way to add the root folder of your WD drive to your computer:

  1. Identify your drive’s name: You can find the name of your drive either by accessing it through web access or by locating it on your local network. Ensure that your DHCP is set up correctly. If you’re unsure about DHCP, check out this helpful video HERE.
  2. Map your network drive: Navigate to the “Map Network Drive” menu from the “This PC” screen on your computer. Add two backslashes before your drive’s name, then click the “Browse” button. Your drive should appear, and you’ll see a dropdown menu displaying all of its subfolders.
  3. Add your drive to the Quick Access menu: Instead of selecting a specific subfolder, right-click on your drive and choose “Add to Quick Access” menu. Voila! Your WD drive is now linked to your computer and can be accessed from the Quick Access panel on the left.
